Human Hair Extensions ~

Home Care & Maintenance

Congratulations, you are now wearing the highest quality hair extensions available in the market today. In order to maintain the beauty of the hair throughout the life of your extensions it is very important that you read and follow all home care and maintenance procedures outlined below.

HOME CARE KIT: This kit is a necessity for ALL Human Hair Extension Wearers in order to insure the longest life out of your extensions! Kits should include a cushion brush, a loop brush, a wide tooth comb, sectioning clips, shampoo, conditioner, leave-in conditioner, and a styling aid of your choice.

BRUSHING: Thoroughly brush your extensions a minimum of two times a day and before every shampoo. Always section the hair in small easy to manage sections. Always hold extensions while brushing to avoid tension on the root area. Brush the scalp area (the hair should be completely dry) with the small cushion brush provided by your stylist. The area between the scalp and the extensions point of attachment should be brushed before bedtime. This prevents matting or tangling that can occur from the shedding of natural hair that can become entangled. Make sure the hair extensions are tangle free in the root area. Afterwards, use the included loop brush to gently brush the hair from the ends up the shaft to the attachment point.

WASHING: Wait 48 hours before washing after extension service. ALWAYS BRUSH YOUR DRY EXTENSIONS BEFORE WASHING! Wash extensions a least once a week to prevent natural oils from accumulating at the scalp area and more frequently when needed. Always shampoo hair after swimming or rigorous activities. Shampoo your hair using Shampoo provided by your stylist and rinse thoroughly. Shampooing should be done in a downward motion, working with shampoo from the top down, in one motion. Thoroughly wet the hair. Your head should be in an upright position allowing the hair to flow in a vertical direction down the sides of the head. Scrubbing in a circular motion is not recommended as the hair could tangle. When in the shower, take the time to run your fingers through your hair to work out any knotting at the root area. NEVER RUB, SCRUB OR BUNCH HAIR TOGETHER WHILE WASHING. RINSE THOROUGHLY. Repeat as needed. Gently squeeze excess water from the hair.

CONDITIONING: Only use Conditioner and Leave-in Conditioner recommended by your stylist. Take care in keeping conditioners 3 inches away from attachment zone. Distribute conditioner using downward strokes from mid-shaft to ends. NEVER APPLY CONDITIONER TO THE ATTACHMENT ZONE. While conditioner is in the hair gently begin detangling the hair from ends to roots. You should always comb your wet hair gently with a wide-tooth comb, working out any tangles from the hair ends up to your scalp. Never comb hair from scalp to ends as it may put undo stress on the extensions. Start from the bottom and work your way up little by little, holding your hair with the other hand near the roots.

DRYING & STYLING: After you shampoo and condition your hair, you should towel blot hair before any further drying or styling. Let hair air dry when ever possible, proceed to style. Avoid using high heat styling tools. Spray leave-in conditioner brush, detangle and separate extensions at the root area completely. Blow dry or curl hair with care. Keep heat away from the attachment zone and use a diffuser whenever possible for better heat distribution. Curling or flat irons and heat rollers may be used, but avoid heat to attachment area. Dry hair thoroughly before going to bed. NEVER GO TO SLEEP WITH WET HAIR. Long extensions should be braided into one big braid before going to bed to prevent tangling and maintain style or gently pull your hair in a low, loose ponytail before sleeping. After waking up, you should undo the braid and brush through from ends working up to the root area, using the loop brush.

HAIR COLOR: Never apply a hair color, perm or relaxer while wearing extensions. Consult your professional stylist with issues concerning hair color or any other chemical services you might need in between extension services.

IN-SALON MAINTENANCE: Regular maintenance of you extensions is required in order to keep them trouble free and maintain your style. Please schedule a maintenance appointment with your stylist every 4-6 weeks for best results.

*Extreme pulling on the extensions may cause hair loss to your scalp. always hold the hair above where you are brushing. DO NOT USE PRODUCTS CONTAINING SILICONE, DIMETHICONE, CYCOMETHACONE, COCMIDES, COCONUT OILS, ALKALINES, BABY OILS, OR ANY OILS ON OR NEAR THE SCALP/EXTENSION BOND AREA.

*In the event that an extension detaches from your hair, save it until your next appointment with your stylist.

* When using curling irons, flat irons or hair dryers, be careful near the bond attachment area. Excessive heat concentrated on the attachment bond may cause the adhesive to soften. For best results use your hair dryer on a cool setting near the attachment areas.

* Chemical services such as perms, color, or relaxers should only be done by your professional stylist at Vogue Hair Studio while extensions are being worn.

* Do not use hot tubs or saunas as this can break down bonds.

* Avoid salt water, as this can dry the extensions out causing tangling and matting of the hair.

* Use a satin pillow case to avoid tangling.

* Don't forget to brush the ROOT AREA AND ALL HAIR SEVERAL TIMES A DAY. *Keep the hair clean, when dirt accumulates (including sweat) the hair can tangle very easily.
